Postnatal Support

Our Postnatal and Breastfeeding Support offers help to recover after childbirth and to increase milk supply. Even if you We also offer support for most health issues which may occur in the weeks and months after childbirth.

Recovery from childbirth varies and depends on factors like your birthing experience went and how well-nourished you were leading up to labour.

If you have been prescribed a partus preparator, you can continue taking it to help recovery and support breast milk production. (A partus prep is a herbal tonic that helps prepare your body for childbirth - for information click here.

Alternatively, you can have an individual herbal tonic made up, which specifically addresses any issues arising from childbirth e.g. bleeding, exhaustion etc. If you have had a caesarean it can help speed up the healing process. A herbal tonic prescribed after childbirth will also help encourage milk supply.

We offer Online Fertility Appointments. You get the same great service from the comfort of your home or office.

Do You Need Help To Increase Your Milk Supply?

Many women need breastfeeding support and help to increase their milk supply. Firstly, there is no need to feel inadequate or blame yourself, if you don’t have abundant breast milk. Secondly, take action and get help, it is usually simple.

Several herbs have been shown to help increase breast milk supply. You can get herbs in the form of teas, tablets or a herbal formula specifically made for your needs. If you decide to see a herbalist for your formula   – you can include herbs which may be calming for you and your baby’s tummy.

After childbirth you may feel somewhat depleted and worn out. It is important to keep up good nutrition and additional supplements may be needed, as all nutrients goes to your baby via your breast milk.

Breastfeeding increases demand for nutrients

Breastfeeding puts increased demands on the mother’s nutritional reserves, which have just been depleted by pregnancy and birth. In fact, the demand for nutrients is even greater when you are breastfeeding than it was when you were pregnant. The best way of getting your nutrients are through a healthy diet, however, supplements are important to cover any deficit and get you back on your feet faster.

Some of the symptoms experienced after giving birth such as post natal depression (not to be confused with postnatal psychosis, which requires immediate medical attention) or a restless and crying baby can indicate nutritional deficiencies.

If you need breastfeeding support because your baby isn't suckling correctly, there are many excellent lactation consultants around. Organisations such as Breastfeeding Centre of WA can also be of help as can your community health nurse.

We may be able to help if you or your baby suffer from any of the following:
